Independent Australian Laboratories is a privately owned company servicing industries in Gladstone and elsewhere by providing sampling and analytical services.

Laboratories are at 104 Hanson Road (entrance via Beckinsale St), Gladstone and the Wilkie Creek Minesite at Macalister near Dalby.

Liam Barry and Colin Grosse each have a 50% shareholding. Both work fulltime for IAL and have no other major outside business interests.

Amanda Schafer

Amanda Schafer was appointed as General Manager on the 1 st March 2005. Amanda brings to the position extensive experience in the coal industry both as an administrator and as an analyst.

Her strengths are her communications and administrative skills, together with the respect of clients and staff.

Except for a short period after she left school, Amanda has spent all her working life in Coal Laboratories in Gladstone.

Amanda was born on the 1 st of August 1972.

Outside of work her interests include learning the piano, ballroom dancing and a love of collecting Garfield memorabilia.

Colin Grosse

Colin Grosse is the Sampling and Preparation Supervisor. He has a Bachelor of Science from James Cook University.

With over 20 years experience in all aspects of sample pre-treatment, sampling and analysis, Colin has the knowledge and experience to bring projects in on time and to the client's satisfaction.

He believes that one of the key requirements to achieving successful outcomes is to have a stable, happy workforce.

Prior to joining IAL he worked for SGS, ACIRL, Newlands Coal and Mount Morgan Limited.

Colin was born on the 1 st February 1956.
